The initiators

Amon Kotey

Amon

Amon Kotey was born 1974 in Accra. At an early age he lost his father and was raised by relatives, because his mother could not provide enough for all seven family members. . After finishing secondary school, he lived with his grandmother from 1992 to 1994 and supported the family by selling mussels and woodwork to tourists. From 1994 to 1995 he learned how to manufacture drums at the Accra Art Centre. During the following two years he produced drums and shared the profits with others. Since he was familiar with the lives of street children from his own experience, he wanted to get involved in that area and help improve their situation. After he met Daniela in 1997, they started to make their vision come true step by step. The Chance for Children project was started in 1999.
