Takoradi

In January 2023, Chance for Children (CFC) opened a branch in Takoradi. Takoradi is a coastal town located 230 km west of Accra and 55 km east of Cape Three Points. It is one-half of the twin city of Sekondi-Takoradi, the capital of the Western Region of Ghana. Takoradi is an industrial center with a port and a fish harbour and has, in recent years, seen the discovery of crude oil in commercial quantities.

Takoradi belongs to the thus termed “Golden Triangle Route”. This is the route of Kumasi-Accra-Takoradi, where many street-connected children and families move in search of job opportunities. In their quest for survival, the children eventually end up trapped in hazardous fishing-related work, selling goods and services, or even selling their bodies through prostitution.

A team of professional social workers who know this location’s local and cultural setting have been deployed to visit children living on the streets to build trust and relationships. The team will strengthen families and reunify the children with their families while working with communities to prevent children from moving to the streets.

CFC will continue to build networks with NPOs, government agencies, and other organizations in the catchment area. Our presence in Takoradi reinforces our commitment to supporting children within their families.
