Residential Homes Hebron

Chance for Children’s residential homes for boys and girls are located in a green and tranquil village of Hebron outside of Accra. The location of the homes was intentionally chosen on the countryside away from the streets, where all children and young people are enabled to develop in a peaceful, quiet and safe environment. Housemothers and social workers are permanently on-site to provide the best possible care for all the children.

CFC welcomed young boys to its first home in 2002, and the first of three girls’ homes opened its doors in 2011. Currently the Hebron Complex consists of boys’ and girls’ homes and houses in total up to 70 children, ages 6-20.

All children find here a stable, secure and family-based environment where they can grow up in a community, receive an education, learn respectful interaction and mature into independent adults, and finally find their way in life.

School Education

Before being enrolled into a school, CFC conducts an individual interview with every child to determine their level of education. Depending on their needs, some children initially receive an education at home before attending school. All children complete their homework with the assistance of our teachers, social workers and housemothers. Children with learning difficulties are supported in small groups to address their specific needs. We monitor the children’s progress and evaluate twice a year the reading level of all children.

Vocational Training

Young people who have already completed compulsory schooling are further supported by the Career Planning Program to help them make the most suitable decision regarding their continuing education and career. Chance for Children assists them in finding an appropriate job or an internship where they can gain their first work experience.

Handcrafts

The workshops’ goal is to teach the children the art of local crafts, to let them explore their talents and interests, to practice in an organised and structured manner and to give them a chance to contribute. These handcraft activities are done voluntarily and in a fun environment. Whether it be batik fabrics, jewelry or greeting cards made from recycled paper, our handcrafted products are all unique and made with joy.
